Expectations of Committee
Members
Realizing that
a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, the role of the
members of the committee is vital. With the acceptance of this
appointment come many responsibilities.
Members should
be aware of the duties they are accepting. It is expected
that:
-
Each member will commit to
serving and actively participating in the work of the
committee for the full term of appointment. We admit that at
times, it is easier to sit back, enjoy lunch, listen to the
discussion and then head back to the office after the meeting.
However, we ask that committee members join in the discussion
– especially when the issue affects their communities – and
share any information that will help the committee make
informed decisions.
-
Each member will recognize
that participation and attendance in meetings is crucial to
the committee's success.
-
Each member has “hands-on”
experience in the field and can add to the base of expertise.
While we don't expect committee members to know everything
about every issue, we do ask that they do their homework on
discussion issues.
-
Each member is comfortable in
leading and participating in discussions throughout the year.
-
Each member carries out
individual assignments that are made by the committee chair.
-
Each member reviews all
relevant material prior to committee meetings and is prepared
to contribute and voice opinions concerning the committee
issues.
-
Each member is willing to
author or recruit others to author articles for the South
Dakota Banker magazine, other publications and educational
programs.
-
Each member’s employer will
support and allow full participation on the committee.
-
Each member asks questions –
whether about meeting time, place, speakers or issues.
